The Sree Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Foundation conducted a major press conference in Mumbai, Maharashtra, raising strong objections against the title of the upcoming film “Raja Shivaji” and demanding that the respectful title “Chhatrapati” be mandatorily included.
The press meet was held on April 29, 2026, at the Mumbai Marathi Patrakar Sangh and Mumbai Press Club near CST Station, Mumbai. The event was organized under the leadership of CS Chavan, Founder and Chairman of the foundation, along with office bearers and supporters of the organization.
During the press conference, foundation representatives stated that omitting the word “Chhatrapati” from the title undermines the honorific significance associated with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, who is revered as one of Bharat’s greatest warriors and protectors of dharma.
The foundation emphasized that the title “Raja Shivaji” is unacceptable and demanded that the film title be immediately corrected to appropriately honor the historical legacy, dignity, and valor of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
According to the statement issued by the foundation, the film is produced by:
- Riteish Deshmukh
- Genelia Deshmukh
The foundation also reiterated that official letters regarding the issue have already been sent to the filmmakers and to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), requesting immediate corrective action before the film’s release.
Key Demands Raised During the Press Meet
The organization outlined the following major demands:
- The word “Chhatrapati” must be mandatorily included in the title of the film.
- The movie must portray Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj with proper respect, dignity, and historical accuracy.
- Authorities and filmmakers should ensure that public sentiments connected with the great Maratha ruler are respected.
Foundation President CS Chavan stated that if the producers and concerned authorities fail to take immediate corrective action, the organization is prepared to initiate legal proceedings. He further mentioned that the process of seeking a stay order from the Bombay High Court has already been initiated.
The foundation also warned that if necessary, protests and nationwide agitation programs would be carried out to protect the honor and legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
The press conference received attention from media representatives, Hindu organizations, and social activists across Maharashtra. Speakers at the event stressed that “Chhatrapati is not optional — it is mandatory,” highlighting the emotional and historical importance attached to the title.
The Sree Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Foundation reaffirmed its commitment to preserving Hindu history, protecting national icons, and spreading awareness about the legacy and teachings of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj among future generations.
